The story of why Possum plays dead has two main characters Possum and Rabbit. No one wants to marry either of them so they devise a plan to go to the next village and say they have orders from up above that everyone has to get married. Rabbit is faster than Possum so when he gets there he gives the message before Possum gets there. By the time Possum gets there everyone is already married. The try in the next time by Rabbit is deceitful so he tells everyone they have to fight each other. When Possum shows up they try and fight him and so he plays dead.
