I like the Canvas Dashboard a lot more than the D2L one as it is visually pleasing. At the start of every semester I customize my Canvas Dashboard by adding nicknames for all of my classes. I do not know what course number my classes are as MLLL-3043 means nothing to me. However when I add the nickname for my class it allows me to navigate faster to it and know what it actually is.
